Fuel Adjustment Rate, Year-on-Year Comparison

The Fuel Adjustment Rate (FAR) is calculated by multiplying the FAR with your total kWh usage, which is the amount of electricity you consume.

The fuel adjustment is based on the cost of purchasing fuel and transporting it to BELCO.

Prior to April 1, 2026, Government tax plus St. George’s UNESCO World Heritage Tax was added to imported fuel. As of April 1, 2026, there is no longer a government imposed tax on fuel.

It is important to note that the prices at which BELCO can procure fuel are greatly influenced by global oil prices and all cost increases as well as any savings due to a reduction in fuel costs are passed on to customers.
