Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (“BELCO”) today announced the winners of a prize draw for $500 and $250 BELCO gift certificates for customers who have switched from paper billing to ebilling. Dawnette Bell was the winner of the $500 gift certificate and Latisha Perenchief-Leader was the winner of the $250 gift certificate.
The ebilling prize draw ran through the month of May encouraging customers to switch to paperless billing. Over 500 customers signed up for ebilling during the month-long period, and now just over 72% of customers receive their bills electronically.
BELCO is committed to sustainability and is working to change the Company’s business practices including reducing paper use. Approximately 10,500 bills are still printed and mailed monthly, but customers can continue to help reduce this paper use by switching to ebilling.
Switching to paperless billing is easy. Customers can send an email to to sign up. Paper production uses enormous amounts of energy and water and is a major cause of deforestation and climate change. By opting to receive ebills, customers can help save trees, energy and water for a more sustainable planet.
BELCO President, Wayne Caines said: “We have been offering ebills for almost 15 years and most of our customers use this service, which is more efficient and better for the environment than printing and posting paper bills. We had a great response to our prize draw with more than 500 customers signing up for ebilling. I encourage customers who haven’t signed up for ebills yet to do so. By working together, we can save resources, reduce our environmental impact and progress our goal of ensuring BELCO becomes a more sustainable Company.”
