BTEC Level 3 Diploma Announcement

Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (“BELCO”) today congratulated two Apprentices who have successfully completed their BTEC Level 3 Diploma.

Bulk Generation (BG) Apprentices Selwyn Berkley and Judah Chapman attended Derby College in the UK to attain their BTEC Level 3 Diploma.

Both Judah and Selwyn are now back in Bermuda working to complete various academic and vocational requirements. Both apprentices achieved distinctions for this award with Selwyn receiving his diploma in the Mechanical discipline and Judah in the Electrical discipline.

Judah completed a year-long Level 3 technical course in Electrical Installation which is the required element to underpin an apprenticeship in electrical installation. The qualification provides an understanding of the skills required within the electrotechnical sector including working safely and effectively, designing, constructing, testing and commissioning of electrical systems, methods of supervision, electrical science and principles, diagnosing and repair of electrical faults and regulations and law.

Selwyn completed a BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering. Using the latest suite of qualifications, the two-year, part-time BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering is designed to support adults who wish to further their development as engineers, leading to a highly rewarding career in this sector.

To achieve the BTEC Diploma in Advanced Manufacturing Engineering, students must complete three mandatory units and at least nine optional units. The mandatory units include Health and Safety in the Workplace, Communications for Engineering Technicians and Mathematics for Technicians.

The optional units available included Further Engineering Mathematics, Electro, Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems and Devices, Engineering Drawing, Principles and Applications of Electronic Devices and Circuits, Computer Aided Drafting, Autonomous Systems, Calculus for Engineers, Mechanical Systems, Engineering Materials, Electrical Principles and Mechanical Principles.
