Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (BELCO or the Company) celebrated International Lineworker Appreciation Day with a breakfast for the Company’s lineworkers, jointers, and fitters today, Friday, April 17, ahead of the international observance on Saturday, April 18.

International Lineworker Appreciation Day honours the skilled, essential work performed by the men and women who keep the lights on, often at great personal sacrifice. For BELCO’s lineworkers, jointers, and fitters, the job does not stop when the workday ends. They are on call around the clock, 365 days a year, responding to outages in the middle of the night, leaving family dinners to answer emergency calls, and suiting up in the dark during storms when most of Bermuda is sheltering indoors. While the island sleeps, they work.

International Lineworker Appreciation Day recognises the dedication, sacrifice, and expertise of the people who maintain and repair BELCO’s infrastructure across the island.

BELCO President Wayne M. Caines said: “Our lineworkers, jointers, and fitters are BELCO’s frontline workers who maintain and repair our infrastructure across the island. They are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and often work under difficult conditions to ensure any outages are restored quickly and safely. They miss weekends with their families, they leave their homes in the middle of the night, and they work through storms so that Bermuda can have an uninterrupted supply of power. On behalf of our staff and the community they serve, I thank our lineworkers for their professionalism and dedication.”
