Working at Heights

Working at Heights training educates trainees in proper safety measures to be taken when working at heights. The course includes exercises incorporating practical applications.

Overview:

  • Fall Protection defined and review the regulations
  • Proper use of guardrails and travel restraints when working at heights
  • Fall Arrest components and their use
  • Inspection, maintenance and storage of Fall Arrest Equipment
  • Safe use of ladders & scaffolding
  • Hazard identification
  • Rescue Planning.

Confined Space

Confined Space Entry educates trainees in the procedure for entering a confined space and performing non-entry rescue if necessary. It is compulsory education for anyone working in a confined space.

Components:

  • Procedure for Confined Space Entry
  • Permitting
  • Use of gas monitoring equipment
  • Non-entry rescue
  • Practical exercise

Smith System Driving (only for BELCO employees at Present)

Participants in our Driver Direct courses receive training in the classroom and behind the wheel. Taught by our certified instructors, drivers learn the concepts behind The Smith5Keys® and how they affect driving behavior. Drivers then practice these concepts on the road as the instructor provides further guidance during a drive.

First Aid/CPR and AED

MEDIC FIRST AID Basic Plus is a combined adult CPR, First Aid, AED Program designed specifically for the occupational first aid provider.

The training is designed to provide trainees with the ability and confidence to offer high quality CPR and First Aid in the event of a medical emergency at work.

Respiratory Protection including fit testing

Respiratory Protection Program educates trainees in the procedure for using respirators, and provides fit testing for prospective users of respiratory protection equipment.

OHSE Compliance Audits

BELCO can provide Health, Safety and Environmental audits for local companies who are transitioning to become compliant with local legislation pertaining to health, safety, and the environment.

Hazardous Material Information and Awareness Training

BELCO’s Hazardous Material Information and Awareness (HMIA) Program is designed to ensure the safety and health of employees while working with hazardous materials in the workplace.
The goal of the training program is to provide knowledge to workers and managers through awareness of the dangers and associated hazards of the chemicals and substances used within their operational areas.

The key elements of the HMIA Program:

  • The Global Harmonized System (GHS) of Classification and Communication
  • Chemical Labelling
  • Reading and Interpreting Safety Data Sheets
  • Worker site specific training (Toolbox Talks, Safety Moments, Coaching, etc.)

 Safety for First Responders (police, fire, etc.)

Incident Command System

ICS-100 – this course can be taught in house at BELCO
This one–day ICS Canada course introduces the Incident Command System (ICS) and provides the foundation for higher level ICS training. This course describes the history, features and principles, and organizational structure of the Incident Command System. At the end of the course students will complete an exam and upon successful completion will be provided with a certificate.

ICS-200 – this course needs lead time to bring in instructor Kildoon and Intellection
This two-day ICS Canada is designed to enable personnel to operate efficiently during an incident or event within the Incident Command System (ICS). This course builds on I-100 course and focuses on the management of single resources. The course units and lessons provide introduction to leadership and management, delegation of authority and management by objectives, functional areas and positions, briefings, organizational flexibility, and transfer of command. At the end of the course students will complete an exam and upon successful completion will be given a certificate. The course is designed to be interactive in nature. It contains several exercises designed to facilitate group and class discussion. Pre-requisite is ICS-100.

Note: This training is provided by an external facilitator and requires a minimum of eight weeks lead time to organize training

ICS-300 – needs lead time to organize
This course is designed to meet all-hazard and all-emergency ICS requirements for operational personnel.

Intermediate ICS – ICS for expanding incidents, I-300, introduces how the Incident Command System (ICS) is used to manage multiple resources and the management required for expanding incidents. This course builds on I-200, going into more detail of the planning process, resource management, unified command, assessing and setting objectives and the demobilization of larger incidents. Typically, required personnel include all mid level management personnel serving as command staff, section chiefs, strike team leaders, task force leaders, unit leaders, division/group supervisors, branch directors, and multi-agency coordination system/emergency operations center staff.

The target audience includes persons who may be assigned to a supervisory position in a larger incident and ICS organization.

The prerequisite for I-300 is successful completion of I-200.

 Scaffold user, erector, inspector training (Course offered through Access Institute)

Occupational Health and Safety Regulations as well as the CSA Z797 Standard (Code of practice for access scaffold) require that ALL access scaffolds are inspected regularly.
