In recognition of International Women’s Day, we are celebrating the women who are integral to our Company’s operations.
Michaela Tucker: Administrator, Operational Support Services
Michaela has been with BELCO for almost two years, having started in Finance and is now the Administrator of Operational Support Services (OSS). She says that working at BELCO has helped develop her career and that coming from a finance background she has been supported to advance in her role in OSS.
Michaela has taken several training courses including the SAGE Intact financial management software as well as the Smith’s System Driving Training. Additionally, Michaela holds a City & Guilds certification in Cosmetology.
Her favourite part of being the Administrator of OSS is learning more about the business and she enjoys being able to bring order and organisation to the departments she supports. Michaela believes one of her greatest assets is problem solving skills and she enjoys finding efficient solutions and trouble shooting when systems need to be resolved.
Most important in Michaela’s life is God, family and being a great mother. Outside of work, Michaela enjoys studying natural herbal remedies, working out, spinning and doing hair. She also enjoys going to the beach with her son and spending time with loved ones. One of her most cherished memories is a trip to South Africa to meet family for the first time.
While Michaela says she didn’t have any specific female mentors, she has always been someone who has pushed herself to excel in roles and believes that if something is for you it won’t miss you, as we are all destined to achieve anything we really put our minds to.
As far as advice or encouragement for other women looking to get into her profession, Michaela said that anything you want in life is destined to be yours, you just must choose to do it. Be committed and apply yourself and the rest will fall into place. The only thing really stopping you is you. She believes that if you really want something create goals and write them down as there is power in outlining your dreams by writing them down.
In the future, Michaela plans to move into another role in OSS but says currently she is enjoying her new team, the professional exposure and looks forward to growing further with the Company and expanding her knowledge in the business.
