UPDATED NOTICE FOR SMALL SCALE RENEWABLE GENERATOR INTERCONNECTION AGREEMENT CUSTOMERS:

Please be advised that the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda (the “Authority”) has issued an order dated 17 April 2017 (the “Order”) which amends the directions set out in its Emergency General Determination dated 2 March 2017 (the “Determination”). As such, Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (“BELCO”) must provide an update to the notice for small scale renewable generator interconnection agreement customers (“Customers”) which was posted on this website on 20 March 2017 (the “First Notice”).

As previously advised, the Determination required BELCO to make certain changes to the terms of the Small Scale Renewable Generator Interconnection Agreement entered into between BELCO and its Customers (the “Agreement”). In the First Notice, BELCO advised that those changes included an amendment to the compensation mechanism for its Customers such that they would be compensated for excess energy generation at an avoided cost rate of $0.1736 per KWh.  This amendment, and others necessitated by the Determination, became effective on 19 April 2017.

Under the Order, the compensation mechanism applicable to Customers will change again. As of 4 May 2017, BELCO hereby provides you with notice that the Agreement will be further modified to reflect changes necessitated by the Order.  Effective 5 June 2017, the Agreement will provide that you will be compensated in the manner mandated or approved by the Authority from time to time.  In due course you will receive a copy of the Agreement showing all modifications to date which have been necessitated by the Determination and the Order.

As ordered by the Authority, from 5 June 2017, the following compensation mechanism will apply:

  • All energy exported to the grid will be sold to BELCO at the rate of $0.1736 per KWh.
  • All energy imported from the grid shall be sold by BELCO at BELCO’s standard approved tariff, inclusive of fuel surcharges.
  • These payments will be reconciled on a monthly basis, and in the event of a credit to you, BELCO will provide you with a monthly payment.

You will be notified of any further changes to the compensation mechanism through notices posted to this website and by correspondence sent to you.

NOTICE FOR SMALL SCALE RENEWABLE  GENERATOR INTERCONNECTION AGREEMENT CUSTOMERS:

Please be advised that the Regulatory Authority of Bermuda (the “Authority”) has issued an Emergency General Determination dated 2 March 2017 (the “Determination”) which requires Bermuda Electric Light Company Limited (“BELCO”) to make certain changes to the terms of its agreement with its small scale renewable generator customers. Pursuant to section 20 of the Small Scale Renewable Generator Interconnection Agreement (the “Agreement”), as of 20 March 2017, BELCO is providing 30 days’ notice that it is amending the Agreement to make those modifications which have been necessitated by the Determination. The modifications include changes to section 6 of the Agreement such that the Agreement will provide that customers will be compensated for excess energy generation at an avoided cost rate of $0.1736 per KWh.  The other changes to the Agreement will make the Agreement viable for use with commercial customers as well as residential customers, increase the maximum generation capacity permitted under the Agreement to 0.5MW, and remove inapplicable references to BELCO’s initial solar photovoltaic program.  In due course, customers will receive letters specifying all the modifications which have been made to the Agreement.
